After New York City Football Club’s (NYCFC) offseason began with a slew of players leaving the club and announcing their retirement, NYCFC have made their first acquisition, signing USL MVP, Sean Okoli.
Making the All-League team as well as winning Golden Boot, scoring 16 goals in 29 games, Okoli comes to NYCFC from FC Cincinnati boasting a strong scoring record.
Okoli, 23, has represented the United States Men’s National Team (USMNT) at an U-18 and U-20 level while also being part of the Seattle Sounders youth team.
Speaking after the move, Okoli labelled head coach Patrick Vieira as a meaningful influence to his career. “It means a lot to play under Patrick Vieira – he’s been everywhere I want to be as a player and I know he has a lot of offer, so I’m excited to get working with him as I just want to continue to grow,” Okoli said.
