The New York Islanders have had to deal with losses as well on free agency. Both Brian Strait and Matt Martin have chosen to move on with their careers away from the New York Islanders.
Brian Strait signed with the Winnipeg Jets on a one-year, $600,000 deal. After spending the past few years as a seventh defensemen for the Islanders, Strait has decided its time for a career change with a move to Winnipeg.

Matt Martin has signed a four-year contract worth $1o million with the Toronto Maple Leafs. The forward has bruising energy and after coming off of a four-year, $4 million contract with the Islanders, Martin has moved on. Martin earned this deal after a season in which he had career highs of 10 goals and 9 assists.

The Islanders are losing two players in Brian Strait, who provided defensive depth, and Matt Martin, who has a bright future ahead, but it does look like the Islanders have signed a replacement for Martin in Jason Chimera.
