Anthony Struggles in Team USA’s Narrow Win

on

In the Team USA’s final game of the preliminary round, New York Knicks fans got a chance to see their star, Carmelo Anthony, in action. In the game, the undefeated Team USA barely found a way to beat Team France 100-97. However, Anthony, who has played a major role in his team’s success thus far, struggled in the victory.

The four-time Olympian logged over 27 minutes of playing time. However, in those 27 minutes, he failed to make a major contribution. The Olympic veteran never found his shot, as he went 4-11 from the field and only recorded 10 points. Additionally, the forward merely snagged 4 rebounds. On the bright side, Melo did finish the game with a surprising 5 assists.

In the exciting game, Golden State Warriors’ stars Klay Thompson and Kevin Durant led the way for the Americans. Thompson, who drained 7 three-pointers, finished the game with 30 points; Durant, who shot an efficient 6-6 from the field, scored 17 points. On the other side, France had a number of strong contributions. Most notably, both Thomas Huertel and Nando de Colo poured in 18 points, and they almost enabled France to pull off a major upset over Team USA.

After this game, Team USA, which is heavily favored to win a gold medal, finishes the preliminary round with a 5-0 record. However, victory has not come as easily for Team USA as many thought it would. In the last two games, the Americans have only won by three points. If the Team USA wants to avoid complete disappointment, they need to step up and play to the All-Star potential.
